The Regina Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, is conducting an investigation into a sudden death after the discovery of a deceased person in an alley in Regina’s downtown district.
At approximately 9:52 a.m., on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, police were called to the east alley of the 1800 block of Scarth Street after an employee of a business in that block discovered the body of a woman. EMS also attended and confirmed that the person was deceased. At that time, police notified the Coroner’s office and began an investigation into the death, which included identifying the deceased person. By late afternoon, investigators had confirmed the person’s identity. She is 60 year-old Regina woman, but her name will not be released at this time; police are in the process of notifying her next-of-kin.
This investigation is ongoing. The Coroner’s Office has ordered an autopsy to try to clarify the cause of death. At this preliminary stage in this investigation, there is no indication of foul play. There are no other details for release at this time.
