A 17 year-old female, originally charged with Attempt Murder in connection with an incident in the 1000 block of Rae Street, on Sunday, June 5, 2011, is now facing a more serious charge. The charge comes as the result of the death of the 18 year-old female victim, combined with continued investigation into this incident. The 17 year-old accused was charged with Second-Degree Murder late yesterday (June 8, 2011).
The events leading up to the death of the 18 year-old female came to police attention at about 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011, when officers were dispatched to a house in the 900 block of Retallack Street for an injured person. There, police and EMS found a 17 year-old female who was taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Moments later, police discovered an 18 year-old female on the 1000 block of Rae Street who had sustained life-threatening injuries; she was transported to hospital by EMS. Police investigation led to charges, including Attempt Murder, against the 17 year-old female. On Monday, June 6, 2011, the 18 year-old victim died in hospital. Continued investigation into this case resulted in the new charge against the accused.
The 17 year-old female cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. She is charged with Second Degree Murder and will make her first court appearance on the new charge in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011.
