The Regina Police Service Underwater Investigation and Recovery Team (UIRT), with the help of the Wascana Centre Authority, is conducting dive training this week as part of the team’s regularly scheduled skills and safety training. The dives will take place at Wascana Lake on Wednesday, February 29th and Thursday, March 1st, 2012. This realistic training is essential to developing and maintaining safe working practices for the UIRT and will improve the teams’ service capabilities for the citizens of Regina.
Members of the media who wish to report on this training are welcome to attend to Wascana Lake either Wednesday or Thursday. The optimum times to observe and report on training would be between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., either day. UIRT Team Leader Cpl. Colin Magee will be on-site both days and can accommodate requests for media interviews.
The Regina Police Service reminds members of the public to be careful around any body of water in the city during winter. Ice conditions can change rapidly throughout the winter and spring, especially when there are periods of milder temperatures. Ice thickness on a single body of water can also vary from one spot to another, especially on Wascana Lake.
