The Regina Police Service is investigating an incident that occurred today in the 4000-4100 block of 7th Avenue, in which a 13 year-old girl was approached by a suspicious male, driving a silver, four-door vehicle. The girl, a student at a nearby elementary school, was not harmed in this incident.
This incident was reported to police at about 9:25 a.m. today, Monday, June 25, 2012. The School Resource Officer was asked by school staff to investigate a suspicious person/vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates the 13 year-old female victim was walking eastbound on 7th Avenue between Pasqua and King Street, when a vehicle emerged from the alley between the two streets heading southbound. The victim described the car as a silver, four-door, driven by a male between 40 and 50 years old. The male is described as Caucasian, having short, “orange-red” hair and a long goatee, no glasses and wearing a blue, hooded sweater with the hood up. The male is alleged to have made lewd comments to the child and followed her. The girl made attempts to get away from the vehicle, eventually getting the attention of a friend’s parent who gave her a ride to school. The girl was upset, but not physically harmed.
This incident is under investigation by the School Resource Officer, with the help of patrol and other investigative units. The Regina Police Service encourages parents and caregivers to talk to their children about safety plans and strategies to help them be safe in our community. It is also very important to reinforce the message that if they think someone is acting in a suspicious way, they should tell a parent, teacher, police officer or other trusted adult.
