A Regina Police Service officer had to destroy a deer early this morning after a motor vehicle collision on the Number One Bypass.
Police were dispatched at approximately 4:32 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 for a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Number One Bypass. Information received in the call indicated that a truck was headed northbound on the Number One Bypass near the exit ramp onto Assiniboine Avenue when it struck a deer. The male driver of the truck was not injured but the deer was badly hurt. The police officers responding asked that someone from Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management, or SERM, be requested. The officers were notified that, due to the early hour, it would take some time to have someone from SERM attend. The officers then requested, and received, authorization to humanely destroy the animal by shooting it.
