A 22 year-old Fort Qu’Appelle male, who was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant of arrest for Breach of Statutory Release has been arrested. The same individual is also facing two charges of Possession of Stolen Property (stolen autos) and a charge of Attempt Theft of Auto.
The charges stem from the following incidents:
– On June 15, 2012 at about ten minutes after midnight, a suspect attempted to steal a 2002 Chrysler Intrepid from a residence on Kleisinger Crescent. The driver’s side window of the vehicle was broken and the ignition removed. Evidence at the scene led to identification of a suspect.
– On June 16, 2012 at about 5:20 p.m., an off-duty police officer saw a 1998 Plymouth Neon, later known to be a stolen vehicle, driven by a male suspect. The officer recognized and identified the male. The vehicle was recovered in the 1300 block of Cameron Street and, though the driver was not located at that time, two other males believed to be in the car were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
– Sometime between June 17, 2012 and June 18, 2012, a 1997 Dodge Caravan was stolen from the 4100 block of Freeman Road. The vehicle was recovered and evidence gathered supported a charge against a male suspect for Possession of Stolen Auto.
Investigation into these three incidents linked them to the same male suspect. On June 29, 2012, twenty-two year-old Michael Riley OBEY was arrested in Regina, without incident, on a warrant for Breach of Statutory Release and subsequently also charged in connection with the stolen auto incidents described above.
Michael Riley OBEY, DOB: 1989-12-04, of Fort Qu’Appelle, faces two charges of Possession of Stolen Auto [355(b) CC] and one charge of Attempt Theft of Auto [333.1(1) CC]. OBEY made his first court appearance on the new charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
