A 35 year-old female and 37 year-old male, both of Regina, are facing charges in connection with the cases of two Regina children, alleged to be the victims of neglect and abuse. The female victims, ages two and four, remain in hospital. The four year-old’s condition has been described as critical.
This investigation began on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at approximately 12:10 a.m. Police were dispatched to a Regina hospital for a report of a four year-old girl who’d been brought to hospital in an unresponsive state. The child was revived but remains in hospital in critical condition. Preliminary investigation indicated the four year-old is the victim of abuse and neglect. Two caregivers to the child, a 35 year-old female and a 37 year-old male, were taken into custody at the hospital. In the course of the investigation, police learned of a second victim, a two year-old female. That child was located at a residence in the 3500 block of 6th Avenue North and also taken to hospital. It’s alleged the two year-old is also the victim of abuse and neglect.
Charged in connection with this incident are 37 year-old Kevin Eric GOFORTH, DOB: 1975-05-30, and 35 year-old Tammy Lynn GOFORTH, DOB: 1976-09-14, both of Regina. Kevin GOFORTH and Tammy GOFORTH are jointly charged with two counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm (one for each victim), contrary to section 221 of the Criminal Code. Kevin GOFORTH and Tammy GOFORTH will make their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012. Investigation into this matter is ongoing.
