A 43 year-old male is charged with Second Degree Murder and two charges of Attempt Murder in connection with an event earlier today, Sunday, March 10, 2013, that left one male dead and another male injured. The Regina Police Service is continuing its investigation, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, into the circumstances surrounding this incident at an apartment residence in the 2900 block of Victoria Avenue. This is Regina’s second homicide of 2013.
At approximately 9:14 a.m., on Sunday, March 10, 2013, police were called to an apartment in the 2900 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of an assault with a weapon. Officers arrived, searched and secured the building and located the body of a 57 year-old male, who was then confirmed deceased by EMS. Police also located a 44 year-old male who was taken to hospital for treatment and later released. Another male, a 66 year-old, was found to be physically unharmed. Police took a fourth person, a 43 year-old male, into custody without further incident. The Coroner was requested to the location as members of the Forensic Identification Unit began their examination of the scene. At this time, police have confirmed the identity of the deceased; however, the notification of his next of kin has not been completed. Subsequent investigation led to charges against the 43 year-old male suspect this evening.
Forty-three year old Ronald James OZIPKO, DOB: 1969-10-14, of Regina is charged with Second Degree Murder [235(1) CC]; two charges of Attempt Murder [239(1) CC]; and Breach of Probation [733(1) CC]. OZIPKO will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013.
