The Regina Police Service Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) was called out this evening, Friday, May 10, 2013, to investigate a suspicious item in the 2700 block of Parliament Avenue in south Regina.
At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, police received a phone report of an item that resembled a grenade near a building in the 2700 block of Parliament Avenue. There was no one near the item at the time of the call. Police requested the Explosives Disposal Unit to investigate and instructed staff and clients inside the building to exit safely using the furthest exit. Police then established a safety perimeter around the device. The Explosives Disposal Unit first used a robot and then a Bomb Technician to assess the object. It was determined that what appeared to be a grenade was a plastic, non-explosive item and there was no threat to public safety. Police dismantled the perimeter and cleared the area at approximately 8:20 p.m.
