The Regina Police Service has been requested to carry out an investigation into an RCMP-involved shooting last night, on September 11, 2013, and the circumstances leading up to it. A 42 year-old male from Holdfast is deceased as the result of this incident.
The Regina Police Service was contacted last night just before 11:00 p.m., by RCMP F-Division, requesting that this Service carry out an independent investigation of the circumstances surrounding the discharge of a firearm by an RCMP member who responded last night for the purposes of a criminal code investigation in Holdfast, Saskatchewan. The details outlining the RCMP dispatch to Holdfast were released by RCMP Media Relations earlier today.
The Regina Police Service will investigate the events surrounding the officer discharging his firearm. As with any death investigation, this will be carried out in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The Regina Police Service will not make any public comment on the details of this investigation except to confirm that this Service is the agency conducting the independent investigation and to provide the assurance of a complete and thorough investigation, subject to oversight by an independent observer (not from the Regina Police Service), appointed by the Ministry of Justice.
