The Regina Police Service is reminding motorists that this Sunday: September 7, 2014, is QCM time in Regina once again. The Queen City Marathon gets underway on Sunday morning and the final full-marathoners will cross the finish line early in the afternoon. That means some road closures to ensure the safety of runners, volunteers and spectators. Motorists are asked to take note of the following detours and adjust travel plans accordingly to avoid frustration on race day.
The following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.:
– Albert Street (both north-bound and south-bound) from 23rd Avenue to College Avenue;
– Broad Street (both north-bound and south-bound) from Lakeshore Drive, at the Conexus Arts Centre, to Quinn Drive;
– Assiniboine Avenue (both east and west bound) from the #1 Bypass to Edinburgh Drive.
In effect, this means motorists crossing north to south and vice-versa on Sunday morning can choose either the #1 Bypass and Ring Road or Lewvan Drive to avoid inconvenience. The Regina Police Service is committed to the safety of all users of our roads. The Queen City Marathon has obtained all the necessary permissions and additional traffic safety support for this event. Please, give a marathoner a break this Sunday: plan an alternate driving route, be patient, courteous and, above all, get to your destination safely.
Thanks for your cooperation!
