A 45 year old male will face charges in connection with a domestic assault on a 41 year old female early today. Police deployed a CEW in taking the male into custody.
At approximately 04:21 a.m. on Saturday, January 10th, 2015, police were dispatched to an address in the 900 block of Broder Street for a domestic related call for service. The investigation led officers to an address on Hunt Crescent where officers encountered a 45 year old male who was assaultive towards officers and was armed with an edged weapon. The male refused to obey police demands to drop the weapon, posing a threat to occupants of the house, including police. It is alleged the suspect fought with police. One of the officers present deployed and discharged a CEW, also commonly referred to as a taser. The officers were able to take the male into custody and get him into the care of EMS. The male was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police are not releasing the male suspect’s name at this time, as this matter is still under investigation; however, police anticipate charges being laid once the male is cleared medically from the hospital and the investigation is completed.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee, a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission, which is a provincial body, independent of the Regina Police Service.
