A 13 year-old male youth is facing a charge in connection with an incident today at Regina School. This led to led to heightened security procedures and a deployment of police resources.
At about 12:00 p.m. today, police received a report of a threat of a possible firearm at a school in the 600 block of Elphinstone Street. The preliminary report was that a student had indicated to a teacher he might be in possession of a firearm. This was confirmed false by school staff and the student was taken home. Later in the day concerns arose that the student might return to the school and the school was placed in “secure the buidling” procedure. A “secure the building” procedure (locking doors, to monitor/control anyone entering or leaving) was also enacted at several other schools in the area. School Resource officers attended to the school and began an investigation. Patrol officers located and arrested the suspect at his residence. Upon further investigation, police determined that the threat of a weapon was false and the schools returned to normal operations. Subsequent investigation into this incident led to charges against a 13 year-old male.
The youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is facing a charge of Threatening 264.1 (1)(a) cc]. The accused will make his first court appearance on this charge in Youth Court on June 6, 2015.
