The Regina Police Service is investigating a possible indecent act in Wascana Park reported earlier today. Police are also asking the public to report any information that could assist in this investigation.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. today, Monday, July 26, 2010, police were dispatched to Wascana Park for a report of an indecent act. Police interviewed a couple who had been kayaking on the lake near Willow Island. The couple indicated they saw a male on the east side of Willow Island near the parking lot. They reported the adult male appeared to be masturbating, while using binoculars to observe a male youth in another kayak. The boy was sitting in the kayak near the shore and there did not appear to be anyone else in the area. The couple shouted at the male and started to paddle towards shore, but they were unable to locate him or determine which direction he may have taken. The unknown male is described as being in his 40’s, Caucasian, approximately 5’ 8” to 5’ 9” tall; with short, dark hair. The suspect is described as having a “pot belly”, and was wearing blue shorts and a white t-shirt. The witnesses also described his actions as being unhurried, almost casual.
Police did an area search but were not able to locate a male matching this description. Police attended to the nearby canoe and kayak club at the Wascana Marina and advised the coaches to be on the lookout for anyone matching the suspect’s description. The coaches advised they would do so; they added they had not seen anyone matching this description.
The Regina Police Service requests anyone with information that could help in this case to contact police at 777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
