The Regina Police Service advises the public that an injured deer was shot by a police officer on Sunday, July 12, 2015. Even though this incident involves an animal, this notice is in keeping with past practice of notifying the public of any discharge of a police firearm.
On Sunday, July 12, 2015, just after 3:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the south bound lanes of the Number One Bypass at Assiniboine Avenue. A caller to police said he’d seen a deer at the side of the road that appeared to be injured and he was concerned that the animal might get up and run into the roadway, causing a collision. The Communications Centre contacted the Ministry of the Environment but the nearest conservation officers were hours away. A police officer at the scene was given the go-ahead to shoot the deer, as it was badly injured.
