The Regina Police Service has authorized a callout of Emergency Services teams, including Crisis Negotiators, Canine, members of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team and the Explosives Disposal Unit. This action is necessary to effect the safe arrest of a male wanted by police in connection to an ongoing investigation. The suspect is barricaded in a house in the 1100 block McTavish Street and refusing to come out. Police believe the suspect is armed. Police also believe the suspect is not alone in the house, but have not been able to confirm who else is present in the house.
This location is in close proximity to a school and, although there is no school for students this week, there is a daycare in the facility. There is a police officer present inside the facility and the doors are locked. The area is secured with a safety perimeter.
Police are asking for patience and cooperation from the public as they work to resolve this situation. The area will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until the incident is safely concluded. The goal of this incident involving Negotiators and SWAT is resolution and the safety of all involved, including the public, police and the suspect himself.
