A Regina Police Service member discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, in the apprehension and arrest of a 35 year-old Regina male on Saturday April 9, 2016.
On Saturday April 9, 2016, at approximately 03:48am, Regina Police Service members were dispatched to a domestic related break and enter call for service in the 500 block of St. John St. Upon arriving on scene officers were confronted by a 35 year old male who charged at police. A police officer discharged a CEW and the male was successfully taken into custody. The suspect was transported to hospital by EMS where he was assessed and released. He was then transported to RPS detention and subsequently charged. The officers and the adult male were not injured as a result of the incident.
The 35 year-old male, of Regina, is charged with Break and Enter with intent [348(1)(a)CC]. He was released with conditions to attend Provincial Court on June 1st, 2016.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee, a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
