A 15 year-old male youth is facing a charge of Mischief as the result of investigation into a bomb threat received by a Regina high school on Monday, April 25, 2016. Ultimately, the investigation determined there was no bomb and there were no injuries or property damage resulting from this incident.
This investigation began when police were notified, on Monday, April 25, 2016, of a bomb threat received at Winston Knoll Collegiate, in the 5200 block of Rochdale Boulevard. Numerous officers were involved, some working on the origin of the threat itself while other officers monitored the school and surrounding area for any suspicious activity. Winston Knoll students were evacuated at the start of the lunch hour. Approximately 50 students were evacuated briefly to neighbouring Michael A. Riffel High School, which was placed in Secure-the-Building mode. All Winston Knoll students were dismissed for the day. Riffel students were dismissed at 2:00 p.m. A search of Winston Knoll Collegiate found nothing suspicious. Investigators identified and located a potential suspect and the resulting investigation concluded with a charge again a 15 year-old Regina male.
The youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with Mischief over $5,000 [430(1)(c) CC]. The charge of Mischief is “willfully obstruct, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property…” (the school). The accused will make his court appearance on the charge in Youth Court on June 22, 2016.
