Two people are charged after a theft on Saturday evening, which led to a foot chase.
On Saturday, July 16, 2016, at approximately 7:45 pm police were dispatched to a store on the 4300 block of Dewdney Avenue for the report of a theft. Information indicated that a female suspect was in the store, while a male suspect had fled on a bicycle. Police arrived and located the female suspect, who was detained at the scene; she was arrested without incident. A male on bicycle, matching the description of the male suspect, was seen on the 1400 block of Edward Street. The male abandoned the bicycle and ran through yards. Canine officers were dispatched to assist, and the suspect was tracked and observed at the backdoor of a residence on the 1400 block of Wascana Street. The canine officer gave warning, however the suspect entered the residence via the back door, causing damage, and exited the front door. The male was tracked to the 1400 block of Pasqua Street, where, after again receiving warning, fled once again. The PSD (Police Service Dog) was deployed and apprehended the suspect. The male suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries and then released into police custody. Both the female and male suspects were charged.
It was determined that the bicycle used by the male suspect to flee the scene was stolen. Investigation also determined the residence at 1400 block of Wascana Street, entered by the male, was not the residence of the suspect.
