On Wednesday, October 5th and Thursday, October 6th, 2016, the Regina Police Service Traffic Safety Unit, executed a Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) using the combined efforts of all shifts.
Despite the snowy weather, in only eleven hours, consisting of two 5.5 hour periods, traffic officers issued a total of 141 SOTIs:
- 28 inspection tickets,
- 10 suspended driver tickets,
- 25 Vehicle Equipment Regulation (VER) infractions/unsafe vehicle tickets,
- 22 unregistered vehicle tickets,
- 84 other tickets (speeding, seatbelts, cell phones, etc),
- 4 vehicle seizures,
- 8 SGI impounds.
DAY 1 – 13 members working in 7 cars
- 17 inspection tickets
- 4 suspended drivers
- 12 Vehicle Equipment Regulation (VER) infractions/unsafe vehicle tickets,
- 12 unregistered vehicles
- 41 other tickets
- 3 vehicle seizures
- 2 SGI impounds
DAY 2 – 12 members working in 7 cars
- 11 inspection tickets
- 6 suspended drivers
- 13 Vehicle Equipment Regulation (VER) infractions/unsafe vehicle tickets,
- 10 unregistered vehicles
- 43 other tickets
- 1 vehicle seizure
- 6 SGI impounds
- 1 outstanding warrant executed
As a result, the Regina Police Service would like to remind the public to consider the consequences of driving while disqualified. Also worth noting is the amount of unregistered vehicles stopped, and tickets for careless driving. While we had hoped the snowy weather this week would reduce poor driving behaviour, we urge citizens to please take care on the road.
