A 2015 death investigation has been concluded with a Manslaughter charge, confirming it as the ninth homicide in Regina last year. The deceased person is 34 year-old Calvin Aaron WAHWEAYE; a 28 year-old male has been charged in connection with this death.
The death investigation began last December when police were dispatched, on Saturday December 19, 2015, to a house in the 1000 block of Argyle Street for a report of a deceased male. Police and EMS attended and found a deceased 34 year old male, later identified as Calvin Aaron WAHWEAYE. The subsequent investigation involved Regina Police Service Major Crimes and the Office of the Chief Coroner. Police investigation led to the identification of an individual who was present in the house at the time of an argument and a physical assault on WAHWEAYE. Attempts to locate this individual in Regina were unsuccessful. There was sufficient evidence to charge this individual with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236 of the Criminal Code of Canada. A province-wide warrant was requested. That warrant was extended to a Canada-wide radius when it was learned the suspect was on remand, in connection with other criminal matters, in Alberta. Once the court matters in Alberta are dealt with, the warrant will be executed and the suspect will be returned to Regina to face the Manslaughter charge.
Investigators have been in regular contact with the family of Calvin Aaron WAHWEAYE to keep them apprised of developments in this case. The name of the accused will be released once the warrant has been executed and there is a court date in Regina.
