A 27 year-old Carrot River man is facing impaired driving charges after an event early on Sunday morning, February 12, 2017. The accused may also face consequences in connection with an alleged incident of evading police outside the city.
At approximately 3:32 a.m. on Sunday, February 12th, Regina Police Service members learned of a Honda Civic alleged to have evaded police in Assiniboia and Moose Jaw, before heading toward Regina. Once the car entered the west side of Regina, it was detected by Regina Police Service members in unmarked vehicles. Police members briefly encountered the vehicle in the Harbour Landing shopping area where one of the officers got a look at the driver. A short time later, the two occupants of the Civic abandoned the car in an alley on the 2800 block of Wascana Street. One of the male occupants of the car was caught by police right away; the other, later identified as the driver, was tracked by a K-9 team and located in a back yard nearby. The driver was found to have a Traffic Safety Act warrant out of Saskatoon and was also a suspended driver. The driver also appeared to be very intoxicated. Subsequent investigation led to alcohol-related charges against this individual. The passenger was not charged.
Twenty seven year-old David B. E. HUNTLEY, DOB: 1989-07-21, of Carrot River, is charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, section 253(1)(a) CC; and Exceed .08, section 253(1)(b) CC. HUNTLEY will make his court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on February 28, 2017. HUNTLEY was held in custody and turned over to the RCMP in order to deal with the allegations he evaded their members prior to his contact with the Regina Police Service.
