On March 28, 2017, at approximately 12:30 pm, police were dispatched to a residence on the 1000 block of Retallack Street for the report of a firearm. Information received indicated a male had entered a residence with a firearm.
Police set up a perimeter around the residence and the occupants exited the house. A male and female remained in the residence, and police, including members of the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), made communication through a window. The female exited, and the male remained in the house, refusing to exit. The male threatened to harm himself and police, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) was called out.
Schools in the area were notified. Schools in the immediate area entered Secure the Building Mode, and carried out a controlled release of students to their parents and caregivers.
Before SWAT arrived, the male exited the building, and was apprehended by police. The firearm was seized, and the male was placed into custody.
