The Regina Police Service is asking for the public’s cooperation in securing property now that spring has arrived. The warmer weather prompts most people to spend more time outdoors, including criminals looking for easy unlocked targets. Spring and summer traditionally bring an increase in property crimes like Break and Enters, Thefts from/of Auto and Mischiefs.
Most cases of break and enters will happen due to an unlocked door (vehicle, garage, shed, house, business). Quite often, simply locking these doors helps to keep intruders out. Garage door remotes are also stolen from vehicles in order to break into the garage/house at a later time. By removing your garage door opener from your vehicle, you are removing the threat of becoming an easy target.
Take the time to prevent this from happening to you. Everyone who owns a garage should make sure the building is locked after using any of the doors. Check your vehicles to make sure they are also locked, and remove valuables from inside your vehicle; this includes remote garage door openers, spare keys, cell phones or other electronics and loose change.
Police are asking Regina residents to be observant and report any suspicious activity or persons to police by calling 777-6500. Anyone who sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1. Anyone, who has information pertaining to a break and enter or theft from auto incident, should call 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The Regina Police Service thanks the media and the public for their cooperation and assistance.
