Two youth have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred early yesterday morning.
On April 5, 2017 at approximately 4:53 am, a masked male entered a convenience store on the 500 block of Albert Street, pointed a firearm at the cashier, demanded items, and fled in a vehicle.
Police investigation led to a residence on the 200 block of Trudelle Crescent, where two young males were arrested. A search of the suspect during arrest revealed a knife, items believed to be merchandise taken in the robbery, and vehicle keys. A search warrant was obtained to search the residence and the vehicle corresponding with the keys, and investigation determined that this vehicle was taken without consent of the owner. The search revealed items alleged to have been used in the robbery, including the firearm (a paintball gun). Items alleged to be stolen store merchandise were also recovered.
A fifteen year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Disguise with intent [CC 351(2)];
- Take motor vehicle without consent [CC 335(1)];
- Armed robbery [CC 343(D)];
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 [CC 355(B)]; and
- Carrying a concealed weapon [CC 90].
A second fifteen year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Armed robbery [CC 343(D)];
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 [CC 355(B)]; and
- 2 X Failure to comply with disposition [137 YCJA].
The accused made their first appearance in Provincial Youth Court this morning, April 6, 2017, at 9:30 am.
