Five individuals (three males and two females) are facing a variety of charges including Robbery, Evade, and Weapons charges after a series of related incidents over the past few days.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, police were dispatched to the 3rd Avenue and Princess Street for the report of an armed robbery, involving a firearm and machete, where suspects drove a blue sedan. The victim of the robbery was not physically harmed. The driver was identified as a 28 year-old male who was unlawfully at large, and wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
On Thursday, September 7, 2017, at approximately 4:10 a.m., police spotted the wanted 28 year-old male in the same vehicle, and attempted a high risk traffic stop. The vehicle increased speed and police initiated a pursuit; however at approximately 4:12 a.m., police discontinued pursuit due to public safety risk.
Almost 40 minutes later, at 4:53 a.m., police found the suspect vehicle, abandoned after a collision with a parked vehicle on the 5000 block of McKinley Avenue. No weapons were found in the vehicle.
On Saturday, September 9, 2017, police staged near a residence on the 1200 block of Elphinstone Street, believing the 28 year-old male, who was the subject of the Canada-wide warrant, was there. A firearm was also reported at the residence.
While observing the residence, police spotted another vehicle, a white Monte Carlo, reported as stolen, driving away, being operated by male, identified by officers as a 32 year-old male.
At approximately 9:15 p.m. (same date), a search warrant of the residence was obtained and executed. During the execution of the warrant, several people exited the residence and were taken into custody, including the 28 year-old wanted male, a twenty-four year-old female, and a twenty-six year-old female, who were arrested.
A search of the residence revealed an air soft firearm, and two machetes.
The 32 year-old male who was earlier seen with the stolen white vehicle was found and arrested on the 1700 block of Connaught Street at approximately 7:30 p.m., where the vehicle was recovered. The male was searched and bear spray, and break-in instruments were found. It was determined that the 32 year-old male was one of two males that had stolen the vehicle on Friday, September 8, 2017.
