Three people have been charged in relation to a weapons offence that occurred at 1:25 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017.
Police were called at 1:25 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, to the 1300 block of 23rd Avenue in Regina, for the initial report of a noisy party. When police arrived, the door to the residence was left open and the music was still playing. Police observed several people who were asleep in the residence, Including one male, who had a firearm across his lap as he slept. Police seized the firearm and arrested six people in the residence. The male who was holding the firearm resisted arrest, allegedly assaulting two of the officers, before he was brought under control. Three of the occupants were released without charges.
Twenty year-old Gerald Edward KEENATCH (DOB: 1997-01-02) of Regina, was charged with:
• Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime [Sec 96(1), CC];
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [Sec 91(1), CC];
• Possession of a Firearm [Sec 88, CC];
• Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, or Prohibited Device or Ammunition [Sec 86(1), CC];
• Resist Arrest [Sec 129(A), CC];
• Two charges of Assault a Peace Officer [Sec 270(1)(A), CC].
KEENATCH made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning (Friday, October 20, 2017) at 9:30 a.m.
A seventeen year-old female youth, who will not be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking [Sec 145(3), CC]. The youth was released on an officer recognizance and will make her first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.
A sixteen year-old male youth, who will not be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with two charges of Fail to Comply with Disposition [Sec 137, YCJA]. The youth was released on an officer recognizance and will make his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.
