A Regina male charged with Aggravated Assault in connection with an incident on October 15, 2017, will now be charged with Manslaughter. This change comes about as the result of the death of the victim of the assault.
In the original dispatched call, police were dispatched, at about 11:30 a.m., on Sunday, October 15, 2017, to a house in the 1100 block of Queen Street for an injured, unconscious male. Police arrived and located the victim, a 25 year-old Regina male. EMS arrived to provide medical assistance as the victim was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious. Investigation into this event led to the arrest of a 25 year-old male who was subsequently charged with aggravated assault. The victim of the aggravated assault is now deceased. The victim is 25 year-old Brendan Ross AKACHUK, of Regina.
Twenty-five year-old Darwin SHEPPARD, DOB: 1992-07-28, of Regina, was originally charged with Aggravated Assault, [268(1) CC]. SHEPPARD made his first court appearance on this charge on Monday, October 16, 2017. The Crown has withdrawn the original charge and a new Information has been laid, charging Darwin SHEPPARD, DOB: 1992-07-28 with Manslaughter, contrary to section 236 of the Criminal Code of Canada. SHEPPARD made his first court appearance on the new charge in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017.
