A nineteen year-old Regina male is facing a total of eighteen charges in connection with an incident last night involving a stolen vehicle and the recovery of firearms, a machete and ammunition.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, plainclothes investigators of the Regina Police Service spotted a vehicle, with two occupants, which had been reported stolen. The vehicle stopped at a service station and, while the driver was out of the vehicle, officers were able to take him into custody. At that time, a passenger in the suspect vehicle, got into the driver’s seat and drove away. The vehicle was located, abandoned, a short time later. Investigators found a sawed-off shotgun, a sawed-off .22 calibre firearm and a machete, as well as ammunition in the vehicle. Continued investigation led to charges against the male in custody. This investigation is ongoing.
Nineteen year old Micheal Ethan OBEY, of Regina, is facing a total of 18 charges:
-2 x Careless Use of a Firearm, s. 86(1) CC;
-Possession of Stolen Property (vehicle) over $5,000, s. 355(a) CC;
-Breach of Probation, s. 733.1(1) CC;
-Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(5.1) CC;
-Drive While Disqualified, s. 259(4) CC;
-3 x Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace, s. 88 CC;
-2 x Possession of a Firearm, Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, s. 92(1) CC;
-2 x Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, s. 94(1) CC;
-2 x Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, s. 95(1)(a) CC;
-2 x Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime, 96(1) CC;
-Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition, s. 117.01(1) CC.
OBEY made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday (today), November 30, 2017.
