A male, age 35, has been charged following a stolen auto incident in Regina on Sunday, January 22, 2018.
On January 22, 2018, at about 11:25 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 4200 block of Albert Street to investigate a vehicle that had been running for approximately 30 minutes. Once on-scene, the police officers found the Pontiac Grand Prix, which had been earlier reported stolen. The driver appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel, with the doors locked. The driver side window was breached in order to unlock the vehicle before the driver could flee. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
Further investigation revealed that the same vehicle had evaded police on January 11, 2018.
Thirty-five year-old Barry Allan MERK of Regina is charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicle [333.1(1) CC];
- Flight while pursued by peace officer [249.1(1) CC]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 [355(a) CC].
The accused will make his first court appearance on these charges on January 23, 2018 at 09:30 a.m.
