The Regina Police Service is now able to report a long-sought confirmation in a 23-year-long disappearance/missing person/cold case.
Confirmation of identity has been obtained in the case of human remains recovered in rural Saskatchewan on December 3, 2020. This was a major step forward in an historic missing persons investigation – the 1997 disappearance of Patrick Cyril THAUBERGER – by the Regina Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. Now, after further investigation and forensic examination, the human remains have been confirmed as then-53-year-old Patrick Cyril THAUBERGER.
A 78 year-old male, Joseph George THAUBERGER, of Regina, has been charged in connection with this case. Joseph George THAUBERGER is facing charges of:
- First-Degree Murder, Section 235(1) CC;
- Offer an Indignity to a Dead Human Body, Section 182(b) CC; and
- Uttering Threats, Section 264.1(1)(a) CC.
Joseph George THAUBERGER made his first court appearance on these charges on November 30, 2020.
The family of Patrick Cyril THAUBERGER has been notified of this development in the case. The Regina Police Service will continue to assist the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the Crown, as needed, in this investigation.
