A 16 year-old male is facing several criminal charges after investigation into two shootings over the weekend, resulting in property damage in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood.
On March 11, 2018, at about 3:35 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Athol Street and to the 1500 block of Cameron Street for two reports of firearms being discharged. In separate incidents, gun shots were fired at two residences. Fortunately, there was no one hurt in either of these discharges. In both cases, police officers immediately checked the area, but did not locate suspects. At the same time, police noted damage to a number of vehicles in the area. Further investigation led to identification of two potential suspects. One male, a 16 year-old, was taken into custody without incident a short time later. The second male suspect is still at large.
The 16 year-old male, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with the following offences:
– Possession of a Firearm, contrary to prohibition order, s. 117.01(1) CC;
– 2 x discharge a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm, at a place in a reckless manner, s. 244.2(1)(a) CC;
– 2 x Mischief under $5,000, s. 430(4) CC;
– Possession of a Weapon, s. 88 CC; and
– Breach of Undertaking 145(3) CC
The accused made his first appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018.
