Two males, an adult and a youth, are facing numerous firearms-related charges after police pulled over a suspicious vehicle as part of an investigation on Friday, June 29, 2018.
At approximately 5:35 a.m., a canine officer took note of a vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner in the 1600 block of Toronto Street. Police were able to follow the vehicle and pull it over in the area of 8th Avenue and Rose Street. Police arrested the two occupants of the vehicle and located a loaded firearm and ammunition in a search of the vehicle. The firearm was a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle. Police also located small quantities of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Further investigation resulted in charges against the two males. It is not yet known if this event is related to an assault with a weapon which occurred earlier, a relatively short distance away. Investigation into these matters is continuing.
Thirty-six year-old Daniel David JOHNSON, of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition, [117.01(1) CC];
- Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon or Prohibited Device [86(1) CC];
- Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC];
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon [90 CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device in a Motor Vehicle [94(1)(a)(ii) CC];
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition [95(1)(a) CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [91(1) CC]; and
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance (methamphetamine) [4(1) CDSA].
JOHNSON made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018.
A 16 year-old male youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing charges of:
- Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon or Prohibited Device [86(1) CC];
- Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC];
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon [90 CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device in a Motor Vehicle [94(1)(a)(ii) CC];
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition [95(1)(a) CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [91(1) CC]; and
- Breach of a court ordered condition [137 YCJA].
The accused made his first appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018.
