Two adult males have made their first appearances in Provincial Court on charges associated with an incident involving a stolen vehicle and an alleged assault on police officers with a can of bear spray. This event occurred on August 8, 2018.
On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at about 6:30 p.m., two males were observed, by police, in a vehicle matching the description of a Nissan 300ZX that had been reported stolen from a residence in northwest Regina. The vehicle was spotted in the 1300 block of Grace Street and followed, covertly, to the 1000 block Edgar Street, where the vehicle parked in the back yard. Officers arrested one occupant of the vehicle in the back yard; the other suspect ran after discharging bear spray at three police officers. This second suspect was located a few minutes later on the roof of a nearby residence. He was taken into custody without further incident. This individual was identified by police as being as the driver of the stolen auto. This second suspect was the subject of outstanding warrants and found to be in breach of several court-ordered conditions. The first suspect was in breach of an undertaking and also found to be in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. A canine unit assisted in both arrests, however, no physical contact between dog and suspects occurred; the presence of the canine and the police warnings were sufficient to effect the arrests.
