Three Regina males are facing drug trafficking charges after a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in the city of Regina. This investigation employed the resources and skills of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, or CFSEU*, as well the Regina Drug Unit, and other investigative units within the Regina Police Service and RCMP.
Over the course of a five-month investigation, police used various investigative techniques to gather evidence in relation to the trafficking of cocaine and methamphetamine from outside the province into Regina. On October 12, 2018, one of the enforcement activities involved the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine. As part of the investigation, police obtained CDSA search warrants for three Regina residences. The searches yielded Canadian currency (proceeds of crime), cannabis marihuana, psilocybin (mushrooms), “shatter” (cannabis concentrate), cannabis edibles and other paraphernalia associated with drug trafficking. Through the investigation evidence was also obtained indicating conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine. In all, three adult males have been charged in connection with this operation; investigation is ongoing.
Twenty-seven year-old Jerrid Stanley ANDERSON, of Regina, is charged with:
– Traffic in Scheduled Substance (cocaine) [5(1) CDSA];
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic cocaine) [465(1)(c) CC];
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic methamphetamine) [465(1)(c) CC]; and
– Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000. [355(b) CC].
Twenty-four year-old Dustin Edward SMAGATA, of Regina, is charged with:
– Traffic in Scheduled Substance (cocaine) [5(1) CDSA];
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic cocaine) [465(1)(c) CC]; and
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic methamphetamine) [465(1)(c) CC].
Twenty-four year-old Emmanuel Charles JACOB, of Regina, is charged with:
– Traffic in Scheduled Substance (cocaine) [5(1) CDSA];
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic cocaine) [465(1)(c) CC]; and
– Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (traffic methamphetamine) [465(1)(c) CC].
All three accused: ANDERSON, SMAGATA, and JACOB, made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018.
*The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) Saskatchewan consists of three teams, located in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert. CFSEU is comprised of personnel from partner police services from Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who receive funding for resources and operations from the Government of Saskatchewan through the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing. CFSEU’s primary mandate is to expose, investigate, prosecute, dismantle and disrupt organized crime enterprises.
