A 19 year-old male, who was previously facing a charge of Attempted Murder in connection with an April 10th incident, has now been charged with First Degree Murder. This is the second murder in Regina in 2019.
This investigation began on Wednesday April 10, 2019, at about 1:52 p.m., when police were dispatched to the 300 block of Rae Street for a report of an injured male. Police arrived at the scene and located the victim, a then-48 year-old man. The victim was taken to hospital by EMS, with injuries described as serious. Police secured the scene, identified a suspect and focused efforts on trying to locate this individual. The suspect was arrested the next morning (April 11th) at about 6:25 a.m., when police were dispatched to a second incident of assault with a weapon; this time in the 600 block of East 4th Avenue. The victim in the second incident, a 56 year-old male, was not injured. On April 12, 2019, police were notified that the first victim had died in hospital.
The identity of the homicide victim is confirmed as: 49 year-old Shaun Napoleon WATCHESTON, of Regina.
Nineteen year-old Jayshree Isiah Joel APOOCH, of Regina, is charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. APOOCH, who was already on remand in connection with the Attempted Murder charge appeared in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019.
