A 15 year-old male is facing six charges after a robbery at a business in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue North. This robbery occurred on Monday, May 20, 2019.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery in progress at about 11:54 p.m. on Monday, May 20th. Several officers arrived at a business location in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue and located a male clerk who had just been robbed at gunpoint by a male suspect wearing a mask. Officers obtained a clothing description from the victim and witnesses at the scene. Officers began a search of the area, aided by a Canine team. A few minutes later, the canine officer reported that he had located two suspects, both of whom were detained. One of the suspects, a youth, was bitten in the course of his arrest; he was taken to hospital for treatment. Officers recovered a backpack containing cash and products from the store, as well as other items. An evidence search by Canine also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the robbery. Further investigation led to the release of one male; the other suspect was subsequently charged.
A 15 year-old male youth, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with Robbery with Violence [344(1)(b) CC]; two charges of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC]; Carry Concealed Weapon [90 CC]; and Wearing a Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence [351(2 CC] and Obstruction [129(a) CC]. The youth made his court appearance in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
