One adult male and three male youths are facing a total of 25 charges in connection with a series of business break and enters that occurred in Regina just before the weekend.
In the early morning hours of Friday September 13, 2019, there were five Break and Enters to businesses in Regina. These occurred at businesses in the 2100 block of Quance Street (two on this block), 1700 block Winnipeg Street, 3400 block Quance, and the 3600 block Victoria Avenue East. In four of the cases, the suspect(s) smashed the front window of the business with a rock or some other large object. A variety of merchandise was stolen, as well a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. Investigating officers gathered evidence, including surveillance video that helped to identify viable suspects. At about 5:00 p.m. on September 13th, Investigators spotted one of the suspects wearing clothing similar to that worn by one of the perpetrators of the break and enters 12 hours earlier. That led to further investigation and, eventually, the arrests of one adult and three youths, all male.
The three male youths cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Two of them are 15 years old, the third is 16 years old. All three males are jointly charged with:
- Break and Enter With Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence [348(1)(a) CC];
- 4 x Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Theft [348(1)(b) CC];
- Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 (van) [355(b) CC]; and
- Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 (miscellaneous items) [355(b) CC].
In addition, one of the 15 year-old is charged with a Breach of Undertaking [145(3) CC].
The youths made their first court appearances on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. today (Monday, September 16, 2019).
The adult, 18 year-old Avison Nash McKAY, of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 (van) [355(b) CC]; and
- Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 (miscellaneous items) [355(b) CC]; and
- Breach of Recognizance [145(3) CC].
McKAY made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today (Monday, September 16, 2019).
