Two males, ages 33 and 37, are facing charges after an investigation by members of the Regina Police Service Street Crimes Unit on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
On November 5, 2019, at about 2:00 p.m., members of the Street Crimes unit, in plainclothes and an unmarked car, noticed a car that matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen on November 3rd. The officers verified that the Toyota Yaris they were observing was the stolen Toyota Yaris. The officers kept the vehicle in sight as it made stops in a few locations. There appeared to be three of four occupants in the Yaris. Eventually the stolen vehicle stopped at a building in the 2100 block of 13th Avenue, where the four occupants exited the car and were arrested without incident. The wallet and identity documents belonging to the registered owner of the car were found in a search incident to arrest. Upon further investigation, the 33 year-old driver of the vehicle was charged. A 37 year-old male was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. One female was released with no charge. A 31 year-old female was arrested on an unrelated, outstanding warrant.
Thirty-three year-old Nam Thanh NGUYEN, of no fixed address, is charged with
- Theft of Motor Vehicle [333.1(1) CC];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 (car) [355(a) CC];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 (debit cards) [355(b) CC];
- Possession of Identity Documents [56.1(1) CC];
NGUYEN made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.
Thirty-seven year-old Devin Anthony ENGEL, of Regina, is charged with Possession of a Scheduled Substance [4(1) CDSA] and Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC]. ENGEL will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on December 18, 2019.
