The Regina Police Service is asking for information from the public that could assist in an investigation into an assault with a weapon today (Thursday, December 19th). This appeal is particularly directed at business owners with video surveillance in the area of the 500 block of Albert Street North. Police have already obtained some video pertaining to this event, but they are hoping to collect more evidence.
At 6:47 a.m. on Thursday December 19, 2019, police officers were dispatched to a report of an assault just outside a business in the 500 block of Albert Street North. Police arrived and located a 79 year-old female who had been the victim of an apparent serious assault. EMS arrived, assessed the victim and transported her to hospital, where she required further medical treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates the 79 year-old victim had left a restaurant just before 6:20 a.m., and was in the general area of a nearby service station, at the rear of the building, when she was assaulted by a tall male. The suspect is described only as 6’ tall, wearing black clothing. He did not speak to the victim, but it’s believed he struck her in the head with something he was carrying. The suspect ran from the scene in a south-west direction. The victim was discovered by a couple who arrived in the area moments later and saw her lying on the ground. They summoned police and EMS and helped the victim to safety inside. The suspect has not been identified or located at this time.
Anyone who may have information or video that could assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). The Regina Police Service thanks the public and the media for their assistance in this matter.
