A 50 year-old male, who is a 16-year member (constable) with the Regina Police Service has been charged with Assault, sometimes called Level 1 or Common Assault, as the result of an investigation by the Regina Police Service into an incident from April 21, 2020. This notice is being issued in accordance with past practice of the Regina Police Service, consistent with the Service’s commitment to public accountability. The police officer was on duty at the time of the incident.
On April 21, 2020, the Regina Police Service received a complaint alleging excessive use of force by a member of the Police Service against a member of the public. It is alleged the incident occurred on North Railway Street, on April 21, 2020, during an investigation into a person needing assistance. It is alleged the officer assaulted an adult female while responding to the incident. The Regina Police Service notified the Public Complaints Commission of the incident.
As a result of the investigation into the complaint, 50 year-old Roger WIEBE, of Regina, is charged with Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code. He will make his first court appearance on the charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on August 11, 2020. There is also a corresponding internal process, as per The Police Act, 1990. Constable Wiebe has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the criminal process.
