The Police Information & Evidence Management (PIEM) department provides support to the Regina Police Service by entry, maintenance and presentation of information to/from the various police databases. The section is comprised of more than 60 civilian employees who work in several different areas including:
Evidence Management Unit (EMU):
Members in this section are responsible for the documentation and storage of evidence and property related to police files. Members log property into a database and reference a storage location to facilitate retrieval for court purposes and/or return to verified owner. Members also deal with found bicycle pickups and – when possible – link owners to the property for return.

Criminal Record Checks
Members in this section are responsible for processing all criminal record checks (filed in-person or online). They also complete fingerprint submissions for employment, Immigration and vulnerable sector screening. They provide assistance for individuals dealing with Record Suspension applications.

CPIC
CPIC is the Canadian Police Information Centre; a national police database where law enforcement agencies can access shared information. RPS employs CPIC radio operators as well as CPIC document entry staff. Members support officers with vehicle and person checks, process warrants, and validate entries on the CPIC database. This section is staffed 24 hours a day.
Direct Entry Victim Reporting (DEVR)
Members in this section process non-emergent police reports from the public over the telephone and via online reporting. Members also assist with other administrative duties related to Traffic Citations and CPIC.
Data Quality and Case Management
Members in this section review police files to ensure accuracy. That task is carried out by checking reports for inconsistencies observing Regina Police Service policy and coding occurrence reports according to the Uniform Crime Reporting rules for Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics.
Traffic
Members in this section support the RPS Traffic Safety Unit and Patrol via the administrative process regarding traffic citations, speed enforcement and red light camera citations. Members provide supporting documentation to both Traffic Safety Court and SGI.
Court Information
Members in this section create all legal documentation and submit related occurrences for subjects attending court.
Court Coordinator
Coordinates and assures the quality and completeness of court documentation is forwarded to court in a timely manner. This individual liaises with the courts regarding information and disclosure for current and upcoming court cases.
Court Disposition
Duties associated with the disposition of accused records for the Provincial Court, Youth Court, Appeal Court and Court of Queen’s Bench. The dispositions are submitted to Ottawa to update the accused’s criminal record.
Court Document
Clerical duties related to providing supportive documentation to the court process.
Release of Information
Members in this section are responsible for dealing with public requests for police information or records, whether in writing, via email or through a telephone conversation. They also process incoming correspondence from outside agencies and provide police reports to our partner agencies.
Media Management
Members in this section are responsible for the cataloguing of all paper documents as they relate to a police file. Members are required to produce paper and interview exhibits for court purposes in a timely manner.
Digital Media
Members in this section processes, documents and stores digital media (photographs, surveillance video and audio recordings) related to police files. Members are required to convert video recordings to a standard video format playable for court purposes, process police in-car camera system video and internal building surveillance video as requested.
