The Regina Police Service Street Gang Unit is an operational and investigative unit focused on local street gang activity. The unit operates on four pillars:
- Intervention
- Prevention
- Suppression
- Exiting
Members of the Street Gang Unit use various investigative techniques and strategies to identify, track, and monitor the members and associates of local street gangs. The unit actively investigates gang-related criminal activity and also works to interrupt and supress gang-related crime in the community.
Given the dynamics of the unit mandate and the current street gang landscape in Regina, the unit concentrates the majority of its working time on meaningful enforcement actions and serious crime investigations. Members of the Street Gang Unit also take opportunities to educate community groups and the general public on street gang activity; the goal of presentations being to create awareness, encourage prevention, and ultimately reduce the number of gang members in our community and reduce the negative impact that results from gang activity in our community.
