The RPS Court Liaison Officer (CLO) is a position assigned to a Corporal who works out of the Provincial Court House in the Prosecutor’s office. The CLO is the link that facilitates the flow of information from the courthouse to the police station and vice versa.
The Court Liaison Officer fields inquiries/requests from lawyers, other police officers, and members of the judiciary. The CLO responds to prosecutor requests for further information required for a file or person for court proceedings, and ensures appropriate procedures are followed when property is seized or detained in court. The Corporal also distributes documentation as necessary; ensuring that the appropriate paperwork is completed prior to a court appearance.
The CLO also works closely with Court Services by managing, distributing and ensuring judicial and other documents are completed and tracked. Out of town agencies also utilize the services of the Court Liaison Officer for requests regarding arrest warrants to be spoken to or provide release documents for a warrant.
