Education plays a large role in policing, candidates who possess post-secondary education or the equivalent work experience will be considered before those who do not. Any form of post secondary is acceptable, University, Tech School etc.
The University of Regina offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Police Studies. This degree is endorsed by the Saskatchewan Police Commission as the education of choice for those seeking a career in policing. Completion of this degree program does not guarantee employment with the Regina Police Service.
SIAST Wascana campus offers a 5-6 month program called the Aboriginal Police Preparation Program (APPP). This program helps people prepare for the recruitment process. For additional information contact 775-7483.
Those applying for a career with the Regina Police Service enter into a competition against many other applicants for a small number of positions. The better prepared the applicant is the better chance they have of being successful.
Volunteer Work
It is not a prerequisite of the Regina Police Service to be involved in volunteer work in the community, however, those interested in starting a career in a field such as policing may benefit from being involved in community type work. There are numerous organizations in and around Regina who are always looking for volunteers.
