The Regina Police Service is investigating an assault with a weapon after an incident in the 900 block Garnet Street involving several people, one of them believed to be armed with a machete.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010, several officers were dispatched to a park in the 900 block of Garnet Street. The information given to police indicated an assault in progress involving several people. Information in the call also indicated one of the combatants was armed with a machete. When police arrived, they found two injured males, ages 20 and 21. The 20 year-old was taken to hospital by EMS for treatment of a large cut to his upper arm; the 21 year-old sustained minor injuries that were treated by EMS at the scene. In searching the area, police encountered a 22 year-old male suspect coming from the backyard of a nearby house. The male allegedly gave police a false name; further investigation led to his arrest on a breach and five unrelated warrants. The male was also charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer. No weapons were located at the scene of the altercation; the victims indicated they were in the park with friends when a vehicle pulled up. Suspects exited the vehicle and assaulted the victims. The victims said they did not know their assailants. This investigation is continuing.
Twenty-two year-old Jonathan Paul PAPEQUASH, DOB: 1987-07-31, of Regina is charged with Obstruct a Peace Officer [129(a) CC] and Breach of Undertaking [145(3) CC]. PAPEQUASH will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010.
