Four individuals, three males and a female, all of Regina, are facing charges in connection with a stolen truck incident in Regina over the weekend. One of the males, a 25 year-old, faces a total of eight charges, including Assault with a Weapon for allegedly trying to run over a police officer with a stolen truck.
This incident began when police received word from a Regina resident, on Friday January 28th, that his truck, a red Chev S-10, had been stolen. The owner provided a description of his vehicle, including license plate information. On Saturday, January 29, 2011, at approximately 12:45 a.m., police saw a truck matching the description of the stolen vehicle, being driven by a female, in the Cathedral area. Police conducted surveillance on the truck, following it into the 2000 block of Elliot Street. At one point, it appeared the vehicle was stopped and the occupants about to disembark when, instead, the stolen truck squeezed between a police car and a parked vehicle, causing damage to the police car. Other police units located the stolen truck moments later in the west alley of the 2000 block of Edgar Street, just as the driver and two occupants fled from the truck. As a Canine officer approached the passengers who had left the vehicle, the truck shifted into reverse and the officer had to jump out of the way to avoid being pinned between the moving truck and his parked police vehicle. The suspect driver then tried to drive the truck forward but the two vehicles were stuck together. The Canine officer struggled with the driver, who was trying to put the truck into forward gear; other officers arrived and the driver was arrested, as were two other males and the female alleged to have been driving the truck when it was first spotted by police. Further investigation led to charges against all four individuals, including charges against the 25 year-old in connection with an unrelated January 21st incident involving a stolen vehicle and stolen stereo equipment and electronics.
