Ceremony

Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers will gather in Reginaon Sunday, September 25, 2011, for the 8th annual Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers Memorial.

The Parade of Officers will start at 10:15 a.m., on Sunday, September 25th, at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum located atCollege Avenue and Albert Street.  The Parade will proceed south on Albert Street to the Legislative Building.  The Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place on the front steps of the Legislative Building at 11:00 a.m.  The public is invited along the parade route and in front of the Legislative Building.

This annual event has its beginnings on September 24, 1998, when the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday in September as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day.  In announcing the commemorative day on September 27, 1998, the Solicitor General of Canada stated, “A formal, National Memorial Day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of Police and Peace Officers, who make the ultimate, tragic sacrifice to keep communities safe.”

Since 2004, Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officers have been recognizing this event with a parade and ceremony inRegina.
