The Regina Police Service has all but completed its investigation into a suspicious fire at a high school in the 400 block of Fines Driveyesterday, Thursday, September 15, 2011, with the conclusion that the fire was started by two children under the age of 12.
Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Fines Drives at about 4:32 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 to assist Regina Fire and Protective Services, initially by providing traffic control to firefighters at the scene. At the point where the investigation supported the theory that the fire may have been deliberately set, the Regina Police Service assigned an arson investigator and the investigation became a criminal investigation.
The children are too young to be charged criminally in connection with this event. The matter has been referred to the Ministry of Social Services for follow-up. In addition Regina Fire and Protective Services will provide an education component for the children.
