The Regina Police Service has concluded its investigation into a January 25th collision between a vehicle and a cyclist near the intersection of East McDonald Street and North Fleet Street. The cyclist, a 43 year-old Regina male, was killed in the collision, which occurred just minutes before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
The comprehensive investigation explored every aspect of the collision including roadway evidence, witness information, evidence of the actions of the drivers of both the vehicle and the bicycle, mechanical integrity of the vehicle, weather, and time of day. Excessive speed was not a factor in the collision. The investigators concluded that, although the driver of the vehicle applied the brakes, there was not sufficient time to avoid the collision. In spite of the fact that the outcome of this collision was a tragic loss of life, there is no evidence to support charges under either the Traffic Safety Act or the Criminal Code.
As there is no known criminal aspect to this case, the victim’s name will not be released.
